The Foundation provided funding for the preservation of the Hotel Meade in Bannack, the first capital of the Territory of Montana. The Hotel Meade is a two-story brick structure and the centerpiece of the old ghost town. A new roof has been completed at a cost of $10,000, the upper porch has been repaired and a new fascia installed for a further $4,000.
Bannack currently has between 25,000 and 30,000 visitors annually, with an estimated 90% exploring the interior of the Hotel Meade. Further repairs are necessary as water damage resulting from the failing roof accelerated the deterioration of the interior of the structure. Without the financial support of the Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Foundation, it is likely that the building would have been closed to the public for safety reasons.
