The evening event included a special performance of the Von Trapp Children, Sofia, Melanie, Amanda and Justin who had just returned home from a tour overseas. They are the descendents of the Von Trapp family singers who stopped touring more than 50 years ago and who are the real life inspirations for the Sound of Music. Their performance during the event made the evening a memorable occasion as they sang songs from the film as well as others in sweet harmony, in costumes worn by the original group.
In addition to the Von Trapps, the Flathead Valley bluegrass band, “Left Over Biscuits,” entertained and amused guests with stories, jokes, and music. This foot-stomping group truly loves to play and the audience enjoyed their music until the closing minutes of the evening.
The program for the evening highlighted the grizzly bear work being conducted in Northwestern Montana, which is currently being funded by the our Foundation, as well as monitoring and conflict work which is being conducted by Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP). Rick Mace, FWP Research Biologist and Heather Reich, Grizzly Bear Management Specialist, presented the program.
Donors who attended Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Foundation’s “Friends of Montana” events and donate $1,000 or more during 2008 are eligible to participate in a special drawing for a Lorenzo Ghiglieri bronze entitled “Need for Buffalo”; the bronze retails for $25,000. More than $20,000 was raised for the Foundation’s grizzly bear recovery work at this event, with many of the donors participating in the bronze program.
During the coming months, “Friends of Montana” events will be hosted by generous individuals throughout the state to help the Foundation raise funds for specific Foundation projects. The events are small and personalized, each with its own special program featuring our Foundation’s important conservation work in Montana. These events provide opportunities for our donors to learn about our key programs or projects. The events also provide opportunities for our donors to support the Foundation through philanthropic donations.
The Foundation is especially appreciative of Jack and Suzi Hanna for their generous support of the Foundation and for hosting this very successful event.
Wine for the evening was provided through a generous donation from Rich and Anita Funk, formerly of the Whitefish area and current owners of Saviah Cellars winery in Walla Walla, WA.
